The humor in this book and the execution of the audio narrators was so on point it could not have been better! I was in tears laughing.
Epically built characters. Wonderfully crazy.
:
There are books that entertain you, books that make you swoon, and then there are books like this one - that slip under your skin and leave a mark. A beautifully delicious Ari Lancaster sized love mark.
I was pulled into this story because it was raw, it was as tension filled, angsty as ️ between Ari and Blake. In this book, you aren’t just pulled - you’re shoved straight into the Ari storm.
The chemistry between Ari and Blake is undeniable, almost painful in its intensity. It’s not just about romance or spice (though there's plenty of that, and oh, is it deliciously done).
It’s about vulnerability, about second chances, about finding something real in a world that’s full of half-truths and broken promises.
What makes their story so special is how real it feels. The emotional messiness, the unspoken longing, the biting banter, the struggles that Blake faces - it all rings true.
Blake is strong but flawed, fierce yet afraid to fall again, afraid to trust that she’s perfect and her journey feels like one so many of us have walked in some form. I feel like I resonated so much with Blake and her internal and emotional struggles and mental health and how she perceives her own body.
Ari, well let’s just say he’s the kind of wrong that feels a lot like right when you're ready to take a leap into his OTT, obsessive, mouthed world. And I LOVE PIERCED PEENNNNN
This isn’t just a hockey romance - or a morally grey main character. This is definitely about learning to trust, even when your heart has every reason not to. It’s about love that doesn’t ask for perfection, only honesty.
If you're looking for something steamy with soul, angsty with heart, this one is def worth the read!
Ari and Blake knew each other as children, and that intense connection, combined with Ari's desire to keep his promise, brings them back together as Ari turns his own life upside down to place himself in Blake's path. The stakes are high in this book. Nothing, not even a boyfriend, can stand in Ari's way. He wants his girl back.
I adored so many aspects of this book, including star-crossed lovers, secret identities, bromance, found family, deep emotional connections, and wonderfully compassionate and relatable representations of mental health and body image issues.
This book (like this entire series) is sweet, spicy, entertaining, and fast-paced. I binged the entire series in one long weekend because I simply could not put the books down!
I actually liked book one more. A lot of people liked this one better, saying each book got progressively better. Not saying this one wasn’t good, I just happened to like one more. The more unhinged, the H, the better!
Ari and Blake tugged more at the heart strings in the first one. They gave me tiny bits of elements of the book torment as far as meeting in their childhood and growing up connected. These two both came from a sad beginnings, and fought their way to where they wanted to be yet still had work to do especially Blake. I felt so bad for her, I actually got a bit teary-eyed throughout this book at Points. You can feel the self loathing she had and it broke my heart. It’s sad because there are plenty of women, and men, who experience these feelings on the daily this was not a joke, and I’m glad the author touched on something so real within this book.
Then there was Ari. He was more of a bulldoze over everything and make it the way he wants it make things his be-atch! He took no prisoners, and made light of everything he could to make sure he didn’t take himself too seriously. I absolutely loved the banter between him and Lincoln and how they added Walker and this book to their circle of trust. Lol I couldn’t stop laughing. Their romance is stuff of dreams.
Another plus, this DID move us further along in this world and I really liked how we got Ari’s story as I was totally intrigued by him in book one. The icing on the cake? Meeting Walker, there is a bit of a spoiler here ***************************************************************************************************************Maybe I’m just a softy, but I did not like the way Cole was treated. Maybe Imissed something, but I truly don’t feel he deserved having his heart smashed the way it was at the end. How cold Blake was to to him, I just did not understand. He just wanted to be with her and didn’t understand why she didn’t feel the same. Regardless she could have handled that with more class…however, then I remember her pain and struggle, how he didn’t seem to hear her silent screams and how she was drowning. How could he NOT see the abuse of her adopted parents?
All all in all, this was a good addition to the story. I truly did like this book, had I not read book one, this could’ve been in my favorites. But see. R. Jane, is an amazing author. This book kept me enthralled from beginning to end with tons of laughter and spice thrown in between!!! Oh the spïce . I’d somehow, completely forgotten the levels these book reach. I am a smüt connoisseur and approve this message!!!
I didn't really like Blake at first but she grew on me over time.
Spicy and possessive, just the way I like it
It was really Hard to read this one because Blake is unsuferable. Too whiney, too insecure, too incoherent.
Ari didn't know how to communicate at all, but at least he was funny.
The spice was top notch, though.
When Ari asks to be traded to LA, after winning the Stanley Cup with his beloved Dallas team, he has only one goal in mind. Steal - I mean, WOO - the love of his life.
Blake and Ari met when they were kids in a childhood home. Even separated at around age, they never forgot each other. And Ari never forgot his promise to make Blake happy forever.
Blake is a complex and damaged person with a lot of psychological trauma that she's trying to unpack. Ari is more than willing to take it all on board. But what happens when Blake finds out just how much he's inserted himself into her life?
I can't wait for Walker's story! He's so adorkably sweet, so it'll be interesting to see him turn all OTT possessive.
