I found so many things to love about this book, one of which is the blending of mythical creatures and biblical stories into our modern occurrences. The ease at which the divine and human realms are blended makes me wonder if perhaps there’s a world I’m oblivious to. I’d be remiss if I didn’t comment on how wonderfully the characters were developed, each of them unique in their own ways, from Brie and her strong, reliable, and defiant nature to Cameron and his hard exterior and his ability to share his vulnerabilities with Brie and Ephraim, with his twisted sense of humor, his wit, and his fierceness. The blend of myths, mystery, romance, adventure, comedy, and fantasy was an exceptional experience.
The word choice and writing style were excellent. I particularly loved the inclusion of different points of view, giving the reader a sort of omniscient experience. The vocabulary was both simple and interesting, making the reading experience extremely enjoyable.
All in all, it was a wonderful book, and I found it really enjoyable. I’d rate it 5 stars because it was both interesting and funny, and the characters are well developed. I recommend this book to any lover of the mythical genre; this will be a great read for you. Also, I recommend it to any person in a relationship. The resilience of Brie and Cameron in the face of many tribulations that plagued them will motivate you to be a better partner.
In this day and age, it can be intimidating to try something new. We as humans tend to find comfort in the familiar, so starting something we've never tried before can put us on edge. There's a lot of entertainment out their vying for our attention, so we seek some sort of return on our investment of time. I know all of this all too well, which is why I can tell you without hesitation that you need to start The Forbidden Tears series.
"The Pendant & The Prophecy", the second book in the series, continues right where it left off from "Ruled by Fate" both in terms of plot and energy. It is truly impressive how authors Samantha Withrow and Amelia Pinkis can manage to put the reader right back into the thick of it, as if no time has passed for us, and keep it lively and fresh throughout. Brie and Cameron, our heroes from the first book, soon find themselves among an extended cast of characters and a world that feels like it has always been there, with vivid wordplay from our authors that create imaginative backdrops and rich lore to dive into. Plenty of questions from the first book in the series are answered, but with them comes even more mysteries that will need to be explored later in the series. Withrow and Pinkis do an incredible job of rewarding the reader with information while simultaneously sowing seeds for what's to come, which leaves the reader satisfied yet still eager to see what's next.
Much like "Ruled by Fate", "The Pendant & The Prophecy" is a love story. But while the first book focused on a specific kind of love, book two delves into love in its many forms. Not just romantic love, but platonic, familial, and much more. It highlights the strengths while refusing to shy away from the dangers that love can also bring. How love can be a shield, a weapon, or can transcend everything.
"Ruled by Fate" already had me hooked, but "The Pendant & The Prophecy" has me well assured that this is a series that you simply can't miss. There is so much here, so much to come, and I absolutely cannot wait.
